The plastic seal that revolutionised safety in the aviation industry

Client
AeroSeal AB
Start of production
1988
Solution
Development of plastic seals for aircraft trolleys and cabinets
Outcome
Improved safety, reduced risk of theft, and safer work environment

Until the 1980s, security seals for aircraft trolleys and cabinets had always been made of metal. These seals caused major problems – they were easy to break and reseal resulting in theft, and their sharp edges could injure the cabin crew’s hands and damage their clothes. When AeroSeal’s founder came to Fristad Plast in 1983 with the idea of a plastic security seal, it was the beginning of a solution that would change the entire industry.

The security seal that changed an industry

The collaboration resulted in a security seal that was not only more durable and easier to use, but also offered vastly improved safety and security. The seal was designed to be impossible to open and reseal without being noticed, effectively protecting against theft during transport. The design and softer plastic also eliminated the risk of injury to cabin crew and contributed to a safer work environment.

Production started in 1988 after five years of intensive development in which we developed a product that both satisfied strict safety requirements and offered a cost-effective solution for the aviation industry. The unique plastic seal quickly became a standard in the industry and is now used to secure aircraft trolleys worldwide.
