Clips, rivets, washers, and valves for respiratory protection

Client
Dräger
Start of production
2003
Solution
Development of plastic rivets for more efficient assembly
Outcome
Reduced inefficiencies and scalable production during the pandemic

Dräger, an international leader in medical devices and safety technology, had long been facing challenges in its production of respiratory protection. The assembly of the protection, where 10 centimetres of sewing thread was used to attach components, resulted in repeated downtime in their production line. This caused costs to rise and limited capacity.

Solution that maximised efficiency and scalability

To remedy the issues, Dräger contacted Fristad Plast. Through close collaboration, we developed a specially adapted plastic rivet that replaced the sewing thread in a new and simplified assembly process. By moving manufacturing to us, we could offer vastly better capacity, reduced waste, and reduced downtime.

During the pandemic, Dräger faced a massive increase in demand for respiratory protection. This meant that the production element of the solution was put to the test.

Following a request from Dräger, we made the investment needed to quickly increase production rates, from manufacturing 50,000 pieces of respiratory protection per day to 1,000,000 pieces per day. And all without loss of quality or precision.

Thanks to our close and long-standing collaboration with Dräger, we have been able to overcome technical challenges and improve production processes, and can now proudly call ourselves their long-term partner. We help Dräger meet both current and future demands in medical devices and safety equipment.
